For some reason I feel like I am peering into Rodin's studio and Camille Claudel has just left the room for a moment...this photo is compelling as well as the works themselves.

In honor of Earth Day I will ride my bicycle to my art studio and make something. And I am taking this opportunity to excitedly exclaim that it is official now: I have two wonderful landlords, one all along at the art studio, and now one where I live. Take heart fellow tenants everywhere, sometimes it is a glorious thing when there is a change. The old regime is gone! Ding dong the witch is dead (figuratively)! I have two very nice landlords. it has been a long time comming.

"...Some of the masks concern women's themes. Among these "Angel Face" by Chandra Garsson of Oakland and "Blasocyst blues" by Sherry Pybas of Chico. Garsson's work is a delicate mask set atop what appears to be a department store dummy, turning it into a sculptural form. The pretty features of the mask are melting and shifting into a grotesque image while delicate hands issue from the sides of the torso and present a framed picture of a Rennaissance angel to the viewer. The work appears to speak of cultural pressures on women to adopt certain behaviors and appearance...." -Michele French/ Diverse Mask Exhibet at 1078 Gallery (article)

At last, through internal study, something of great import is discovered by the student of herself. Revealed to her through hardship, effort, and will, it was there all along. It is the human spine, ultimate defense weapon and agent of change. It was a sculpture and a portrait of a sculpture (substituted for on this website by sister assemblage, Cassandra). Ultimately it was a portrait of her spine that was prophetic, not unlike the utterings of Cassandra.
